BobCat got broad
sided on the way home on Grove Street in Worcester. He has two
broken ribs, and side bones on his spinal cord were fractured along
with a cut on his head and bruised hip. The spinal cord is not as
bad as it sounds,he will be OK. He was admitted to the hospital to
make sure everything is OK.
Prayers or healing energy from all his family at 291 would surely
help his recovery. I will post more information as I get it but I'm
sure Bob will post as soon as he is able.

Not only would I sue her for hitting me, I'd sue her for the emotional
damage of seeing her in my rear view mirror.

I went home at lunch to get my bike but thankfully, I did not take
it back to work because I got rear-ended in my truck while on my way
home for the day. I was only going about 60 - 65 MPH on the highway
when I got hit ..I think she was going about 90 (maybe more). I could
see it coming too .. little Supra coming up fast in the middle lane,
then slowly changed to my lane. As I watched (one eye on the road, the
other in my mirror), I was thinking to myself "Hmm, that car is coming
up pretty quickly but the exit is coming and I'm in the lane so it will
have to slow down" Then I suddenly realized that it wasn't slowing and
the next thing I know, I was hit hard, lifting the back of my truck off
the ground (at least it felt like it). On impact, it seemed as if my
head was going to rip off and land in the back seat (the high-back
bucket seats really aren't high enough). Even though it was a pretty
violent hit, there were no real injuries to anyone. The funny thing is
I wasn't even angry when I got out of my truck. The bumper and floor of
the bed are bent, cab has a couple dents (it doesn't look bad but it is
worse than it looks - will be several thousand to fix) and her car
looked surprisingly good.
Just before she hit me, I could see that she had been injured in
the past (severe burn scarring on every exposed area that I could see in
my rear-view mirror) which became more apparent when I got out of the
truck. Maybe that's why I didn't call the police, I don't know .. she
definitely would have been cited but maybe I thought she had enough to
deal with. So tonight, I decided to punch her name into Google and I
got this http://www.phoenix-society.org/ProfileStory.asp?id=1390 . She
(or anyone in this situation) is a stronger person than I to go through
life with such pain. I feel lucky to be alive and as relatively healthy
as I am, with few life injuries or scars. Stay healthy, relatively safe
and take care of yourselves (but have fun doing it),

   Chief

I hope I wasn't the only one who got to ride today. Man, got up
around 11, had every intention of getting a couple of bike keys
made,
took me to the locksmith in Worcester, then to Motorsports for the
Honda key, and Performance for the Vulcan key. I don't know HOW I
ended up nearly in Nashua, NH, got on 110 - 111 and kept going.
Bike
was perfect, minimal amount of centurians, though I did have one
try
to run into me by changing lanes without looking. Magoo, you've
done
it again! Serendipitously came across Route 3, and hopped that
going
South, rode alongside a Harley guy for a bit on newly paved
superslab, smooth as a baby's bottom, got back off on 110. Lots
and
lots of beautiful views, and many glimpses at Anytown, USA.
I don't know what prevented me from continuing on cross-country,
but,
like sheep, we all find ourselves at work in our assigned stalls.
It's not natural, I tell you. These days of perfect weather are
rare,
and even more rare are the odds of them occuring on a weekend.
Cooled
down quick, as expected this time of the year, planning on having
my
nuts somewhere around my chest area during the 2:30 am ride home.
Supposed to be 74 tomorrow.......................anyone? anyone????

Thanks for the update. I am not far from UMASS, please let me know if
there is anything that Bob needs, I can get over there lickety-split. I
was dazed at work for the last couple of hours after reading the email,
and the ride home, which should have been a terrific one in this
unseasonably good weather was filled with paranioa.
The important thing is that Bob is going to be alright. He'll probably
be able to get a new bike out of the deal (NOT A HARLEY, BOB, NOT
THAT!!!!), if there's a silver lining at all. Maybe if he's out and
bored, he can take a ride with me Sunday, I'm going to try to go to
Hartford, there's a bike show there, and some guy is supposed to give me
a set of pipes for my Honda.
And we're all waiting to hear the story about this.......

Would anyone like to take a ride out to Springfield, Mass.?

Please take a look at http://www.brightnights.org/ for more info...

If it's nice, we could take our bikes. We could also take our cars.

Anybody interested?

'Twas The Night Before Christmas (Biker Style)

'Twas the night before Christmas, And not until Spring,
Would an engine be running, not even a Wing.
The bikes are all sleeping, They're covered and warm
Batteries are tendered, nylon covers their form.
My Bros were all nestled snug in their beds,
While visions of new chrome danced in their heads.
And I in my doo-rag, bike jacket and boots,
Out shoveling snow, and dreaming of scoots.
Then from the horizon there came such a clatter,
My shovel I dropped, what could be the matter?
Away up the hill, I slogged through the snow,
Looked up at the sky; where'd all that noise go?

A throb from the heavens like straight pipes so hearty,
Gave Summers' good thoughts, a loud bikers' party.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a neat '02 Retro, Red trailer in rear.

With a little old rider, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than Crotchies his Retro came on,
And he whistled, and shouted, and sang out this song;

"Now, Harley! Now, Big Dog! On Honda and Beamer!
Now Yamaha! Now Injun! On Vict'ry and Triumph!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now RIDE away! RIDE away! RIDE away all!"

As small bikes that from the semis do fly,
When they meet with the air blast, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top that Ol' X it flew,
With a trailer of goodies, and ole' St. Nick too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The rumble and thunder of pipes that gave proof.
I ran to the house, boots thumping around,
And in came St. Nick all bearded and round.

Dressed all in black leather, from do-rag to boot,
His chaps were all tarnished with road grime and soot.
A T-bag of goodies he'd flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His shades -- how they twinkled! his do-rag how scary!
With chains intertwined, through skulls that were cherry!
His droll little mouth had done many a row,
So the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
The smoke had a strange smell; it gave him relief!
He had a broad face and a large fat beer belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was tattooed and plump, a right jolly old rider,
So I offered a cold Bud, thought what could be righter?
A wink of his eye as he downed that cold beer,
Gave me to know I had nothing to fear.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to my ride,
And fixed it with Chrome, Horsepower and Pride!
And giving the peace sign with bikers' good cheer,
Took off for his Retro which was rumbling quite near.

He sprang on the saddle, his gloves on the bars,
A wheeley he threw then off towards the STARS!
I heard him exclaim, as my chest swelled with pride...
"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD RIDE!"

Our meeting was packed!
Our meeting on Wednesday, April 6th 7PM was packed! We voted in 4 new members (Roxanne & Carl Pagliuca, Chris Amaru, and Cyma Haynes). Rich from Cycles!128 brought some items for our raffles, and pledged his support of our chapter. He introduced Drew from LoJack who gave us a nice presentation on LoJack for Motorcycles. After their presentation there was a quiz and golf shirts were given out to members who had the correct answers! Peter Horgan (our chapter's Vet's Rep) gave a presentation on upcoming Veteran's Events such as the Gold Star Mother's Ride and The Moving Wall. Our chapter is very excited about being able to escort the wall around New England. Larry Caron, the coordinator for the escorts, gave us a presentation and will be in touch with us as things develop. I also passed out an article on safety I had gleaned from The AMA magazine; American Motorcyclist. We raffled off quite a few nice gifts, such as a cleaning kit for your bike, and a couple of Star beanie hats (like my new one), and a few other things.

We have an immediate need for an interim Secretary. Please feel free to volunteer! Also, this may develop into a regular position. Reply to me to volunteer!

Sgt. At Arms Lou made a plea for donations for a downed Star Rider, Deanna Neal. Deanna was injured quite severely when a car crashed into a group of motorcycles. She lost her left leg above the knee. We will have a donation box setup at each event until I leave for Star Days in July, where I will present whatever was collected on behalf of the chapter.

As I was cruising down I-95 the other day, I noticed quite a lot of the
Massachusetts "state flower" in full bloom alongside the highway. Those
brilliant orange and silver-white blossoms seem to literally explode onto
the scene in early spring. There seems to be three varieties; the tall
slender 'lily of the valley' that is prevalent all along the big dig and
it's entrails, the small conical 'croak-us' such as the ones on the upper
level of the Tobin near the tolls, and finally those magnificent and grand
'beer barrel blossoms'
like you see on I-95 and US-3.

This brings me to my point; These lovely flowers are harbingers of the
'gardening'
process that bestows those tiny grooves in the hardtop and other such lovely
diversions to safe travel. Seeming to disappear now are those gigantic
suv-swallowing craters on our roadways, slowly but surely being replaced
with smooth black asphalt sheets for our riding pleasure. But do not rest
easy just yet, because there are still plenty of moon-craters left, and I
assure you they can really wreak havoc on your mood if you suddenly find
yourself in mid-air over one of these canyons. So, unless you're Evel you'll
want to keep an especially watchful eye on the road up ahead in these first
few rides of the season.

The weather last weekend was extremely conducive to riding, especially on
Sunday when I rode back from Rye Beach with my jacket in my saddlebag. This
weekend also promises to be a winner, but please don't go spelunking on your
bike.

Be careful out there, and let's watch out for each other.

Feel The Wind, and Keep Your Knees In The Breeze!

Ride To Live, Live To Ride....Longer!

Pat Rosenheim

Chapter Newsletter

April 24, 2005

Issue # 9

Greetings Members and Friends!

Yesterday was "Lucky Louie's" birthday!

Please join me in belatedly wishing Lou Dell'Anno a very Happy Birthday!

Hey! Here's one way to keep abreast of 'current events', check out our 'upcoming events' page on our website;

Be sure to join us in our online forum; http://star240.com/phpbb2, where we always have the latest information on our rides and area events!

Ride Reports!

Cycles!128 Ride

The Cycles!128 Ride on the 17th was *way* too long, but it *was* fun! We went from Cycles!128 to Moto Market in Acton, and that would have been long enough in itself. But, no-o-o-o-o! Yours truly had an itch to ride, so we continued west on Rt. 119 until we reached Rt. 124 and headed north. We ended up in Peterborough, NH! So, we did the only logical thing; we rode up to the top of Pack Monadnock in Miller State Park! Pictures are here; http://star240.com/_sgt/mfm1_1.htm

"Lucky Louie's" Laconia Loop

Our first "Official" Chapter Ride was led by long-time friend and Road Captain, Scott Adams. Scott led 12 bikes on our Inaugural Ride through southern NH and up into the Lakes Region. We stopped at Johnson's Dairy Bar for lunch, where we met some of the Laconia Chapter! After a meeting of the minds, we decided to let Mike, the Road Captain from Chapter 233, lead us around Lake Winnepesaukee. We ended the ride at the Weirs, where I told everyone;

"We should be proud..."

"For our first ride of the season, I think we had a good showing. I would always like to see more participation of course, but as 12 bikes left the starting location and headed out on our route, I felt a deep sense of pride in belonging to such a fine group. The ride was flawless, and the route was perfect. Timing was never an issue, and there was plenty of stops for even the weakest of bladders. When we got to Johnson's Dairy Bar for lunch, and then Chapter 233 showed up to join us, the pride I was feeling was almost overwhelming. As I rode in the back, and *tried* to take some pictures, I was almost overcome with joy. The ride, the camaraderie, and the weather all combined to make it a stellar day. As we were led around Lake Winnipesaukee by Mike from the Laconia Chapter, I had time to count some of the other groups we encountered in our travels. We should be proud to be a member of the group that had the most riders of all groups I saw on our travels. 18 bikes was quite respectable, IMHO. Thank you for letting me ride with you, and I hope to make you proud of me all year long. I know I am proud of *you*!"

Pictures are here; http://star240.com/_sgt/mfm2_1.htm

Only 10 more days until our next meeting!

I have been working on a proposed chapter banner. This is what i've come up with so far;
