Hi everyone,
Tonight Bob, Pat and I had the opportunity to attend a meeting of
the MMA.
The MMA, or Massachusetts Motorcycle Association, is a group
comprised of motorcyclist like you or I. The purpose of the group is
to promote safety and equality for motorcyclists at the State level.
They lobby for and promote Issues pertaining to those who chose two
wheel transportation. They also hold two of the best charity rides
in the state, Nelson's Run and the fall Toys For Tots Run to
Fitchburg.
Some of the issues they discussed tonight were equity in insurance
rates, safety concerns, membership, by laws and upcoming events to
raise money and awareness for their efforts. Some of the events are
political and some are social. All benefit those who ride.
It seems that the directors of this group know how to spread their
limited time and money to do the most good that they can. I was glad
I attended the meeting and I was glad to be joined by two friends
who ride with me often.
At this time the MMA is actually in the midst of a law suit that
aims to bring down the cost of insurance for all riders in MA, and
increase the options we have for our policies.
Past efforts have helped riders fight unjust moving violations for
sound levels and DOT helmet guidelines.
This group won support for Handicapped and Veteran license plates
for motorcycles and put motorcycle awareness into the registry's
driver education curriculum.

The following is a message from the Star national site


If you plan to visit the DC area this Memorial Day weekend, you may want to
reserve a block in the STAR Touring block of rooms at the Red Roof Inn in
Springfield.

70 rooms are available.

To make a reservation, please call Tammy Horsley's staff at 1-800-874-9000
between 0800 - 1800 EST Monday through Friday. Identify yourself as a member
of STAR Touring & Riding, Group Number B313000025.

Reservations must be made prior to 15 April 2004 or the unused rooms will be
released from the block... I recommend making your reservations soon to help
our planning. Final payment is due on 27 May 2004.

You cannot make a reservation in this block of rooms by calling the hotel
directly - because of the size of this block we must work with the Special
Services Representatives.

While a number of folks have been able to secure their individual
reservations, I don't know how many rooms are still available outside of the
block that we have.

Well, Yamaha just expanded their list of defective bikes.
You should contact your service dealer and ask them to check your VIN
against the recall list.
My 2001 Road Star Silverado was not included in the original recall, BUT...
I was contacted by my service guy, at Cycles 128 Beverly, MA, today. He said
that I should call to order the replacement kit and set up an appointment
for the work ASAP. The bike should not be ridden till the replacement is
done. I have almost 13,000 trouble free miles on my bike.
Be safe.

I talked to Yamaha and the dealer where I bought my "03 Silver Edition
Roadstar.  I've got to get mine in also.  The dealer orders the parts as
soon as they get the notice from Yamaha.  My dealer did not have his
notification yet...in fact he knew nothing about the recall until we spoke
this morning.  Yamaha is going to get the letters out to the owner very
soon.  I have had no trouble with my bike so far and am planning on riding
it in sometime in March after the dealers have a chance to practice up on
someone elses bike...I made about 30 copies of the notice and will have them
at the Holiday party for anyone who wants to bring it home with them.

August.  We are planning to invite a few chapters this year.
Depending on interest and volunteers we are hoping to make this a
Northeast event "down the road".

The location will be mid-coast Maine and the date chosen is August

on actual attendance.  This event will be held rain or shine and will

of Star Touring News?
I sent an email directly to each of you, using the addresses that I
have on file from our meeting minutes and this site.
In it I asked you to reply in order to verify that address.
I also asked how you prefer to receive messages and notification
about Star and Chapter 240.
I do not want to "FLOOD" anyone's email box, nor do I want to be
interupting your lives with phone calls.
Let me know how you would like to be reached. We are planning a lot
of different things for this year and I would like everyone to have
an equal opportunity to get involved from the planning right through
the activity.
Our February meeting should be a great kick of to our new year
together.
So please, reply to that email and let me know how to reach you.
