Boston Harley doesn’t want sportbikes, or do they not want any non-HD products?

Bill McCarthy stated at our meeting that he called Boston Harley and ASKED if there were any bike NOT allowed to participate and was told  NO..All are invited.  There is no mention of any exclusions of sport bikes or ANY non Harley bikes on Boston Biker.com where the event is listed.  Realistically, does it make sense to sponser a charity ride and then EXCLUDE bikes....I think the beef is between Parkway Cycles and Boston Harley and something I don't think we as a club should be getting into...of course individuals can do whatever they like.

Yeah, I agree. And as I stated at our meeting I'd like to have a meeting
with Parkway and we should also register with the ride.

To be clear, are you still advocating that the meeting with Parkway
take place on the day of the ride and then we go and register? I
think that will send a mixed message to the riders at Parkway.

If we want to promote unity among riders we should try and identify
the REAL reasons behind the complaints. There will be thousands of
bikes at this ride. I don't think that harsh words between a few of
them should be blown out of proportion.

On the subject of Parkway running behind the ride and not
registering, I have spoken to the Sheriff's Motorcycle Unit which
will be providing escort. Under no conditions will they be allowed
to run behind the group. They will be stopped and made to disperse
or detained and released in pairs. The reasons for that are:

As a group, they are separate from the ride and do not have a parade
permit and escort, posing a danger to public safety.

If they are not registered, they have not signed the ride waiver, nor
have they contributed to the charity, which is the purpose of the
run, and the reason a lot of these Officers are donating their time.

At the end of the line will be police cruisers, tow trucks, and
ambulances. After these vehicles are through, the intersections will
be released and riders trying to pass in a group will be putting
themselves in danger and causing a public nuisance.

At this point, they may be detained in the parking lot at Parkway,
the same as automobile traffic, until the ride is well underway and
the have no chance of joining it. I would hate for our members to
get caught up in something like that and miss the ride, or to get
identified by Law Enforcement as part of the problem.

I want to have a meeting with Parkway prior to the ride. I never advocated
that we meet with Parkway the day of the ride and then go register. I did
say I thought we should try to support them as a dealer and encourage them
to register. I also said we could go to Parkway after our brunch and spend
some time with them. It was my hope that we could spread some goodwill. I
said we should pre-register because it's cheaper, but we should probably
wait until the day before to check the weather.

I agree, Bob. We do not want to be seen as part of the problem.

This is a sticky situation, and we don't need to get 'stuck' by it...

Normally I don't write to other chapters, just the Presidents, but I feel compelled to, at this time. Disputes among members, including the officers should not be brought public on the forum. For the sake of the Chapter, Star Touring and Riding, and under the rules set forth in the Charter License, there should not be any bashing. The procedure is to notify the Sgt. at Arms and follow the chain of command. If after following this, you still have a complaint, you can come to me, Mike Mullins, or go to the National Sgt. at Arms. I can't talk about Patricks decision to pull the other forum. If he pays for it, it certainly is his right. This, is a free forum, the same as ours. On our forum, Myself, the VP, and the Sgt. at Arms are moderators. I have the regional director and anyone else who wants to be on it, signed in. We have nothing to hide, and no secrets. It should be the same with this one. Any public bashing should be stopped. Patrick is the duly elected president and until that changes, he will control this chapter, not public opinion. I can be reached at any time and am here to serve you.

Anthony;

Can we “agree to disagree”?

I’d like to put any and all disagreements behind us and move on.

For the good of the chapter.

Let me know.

I think it's GREAT that you guys kiss and make-up but I think you should do it in private (especially the kiss part).

Cars lie to us and tell us we're safe, powerful and in control.  Motorcycles tell us a more useful truth: we are small and exposed, and probably moving too fast for our own good, but that's no reason not to enjoy every minute of the ride.
Life may not be the party we hoped for...but while we are here we might as well dance!

Anthony;

Can we “agree to disagree”?

I’d like to put any and all disagreements behind us and move on.

For the good of the chapter.

Let me know.

Pat

Well, thanks for the kind and supportive comments.

I have turned OFF ALL MODERATION, so anyone can join and anyone can
post.

I guess you didn't understand my objection to moderation. If you have
to be a member of Star 240 to join the forum, then why do we need
moderation?

I am sorry you think that my comments are unkind and unsupportive, but
they are my opinion. You seem to think that any comment that does not
support your decisions are indictments of you, personally. That is not
the case. I have no problem with you, Pat, I have a problem with this
forum. The other forum had seperate areas for members and non-members
(of the forum) and an area restricted to just chapter members. It
doesn't appear we can do that here.

Another problem I see with moderation is that if the moderator is not
online, the messages have to wait to be seen. This makes it difficult
to carry on a discussion in a timely manner.

If switching to the Yahoo forums was done to reduce the time you have
to spend maintaining it, it doesn't seem like that has happened.

Why does every decision around here have to be an extreme, seemingly
off the cuff decision. I made a comment and you reacted in an extreme
manner and changed things. I could be wrong. I just expressed an
opinion. Why can't you take my opinion and integrate it in with
everyone elses opinions and then make a calm reasoned decision?

I think my initial decision to just stay off the forum and not comment
about chapter business was the correct one.
