Why are we reverting to Yahoo?
We have a fantastic web site, which gives us a great forum and other features. It also puts forth a positive, upscale, image for our chapter.

Are we voting on this?  Perhaps we should not make any permanent changes until we get a chance to discuss them at the next chapter meeting.

Take a look around the yahoo site;

Put your info in the database

Add entries to the calendar

Use the chat feature

Upload a photo or two

It's all here, and it's free.

What could be easier?

I think there is an option to get the emails as a daily digest instead of individual emails.  Check it out on the Yahoo groups site.

now, now...just expressing myself in my usual charming way....doesn't
mean I won't be in here, I use yahoo for the drifter riders and vroc
forums also, I just prefer your hated delphi.
so anyways, anyone coming to Keene tomorrow? the drifter guys have
updated their info. on that forum, they are having breakfast at the
Poor Boy restaurant exit 5 off 93 at about 7:45ish, heading up 93 to
293 to 101 for the meet. should be a lovely morning ride...and Keene
is where I got my faboo simpsons biker shirt last year, can't wait to
see what they are selling this year!!

Parkway cycles is hosting a pre Witch run party on October 30 2005.
It is not a sign in point for the ride, just a place and event for
metrics to meet up and ride togehter. Hope to see every one there.
I will not be posting more info as it is WAY too much work to log in

Thanks Doug
I was wondering if this ride was worth going on.
Has anyone else done it?
Is the pack too large to enjoy the ride?
Is safety a concern?
It just seems BIG.
I would like to do it once, just to see if it is as exciting as it sounds.

I didn't realize this was posted on the internet for the whole world
to see.
I thought you wanted to forward it to our members.
Hmmm, I answered you via personal email, before I saw this.

Well maybe now folks will be as bold, with their own comments, and
you will be able to see what you have as of yet missed in their
subleties, and abstainment.

Some people prefer broadcasting, others like a more personal, one on
one type of conversation.
Generalizing vs personalizing.

I see, from Lou's post on the "other STAR240 Forum", that this must
have been discussed recently. Maybe at the BOT meeting, good. Here's
a copy of my reply to that "otherForum"

To the Board of Trustees:
I agree with Lou's comments, about Pat and his willingness to take
on the position of president, when no one else wanted it.
Pat does spend a lot of time on chapter matters.
He also did that last year, as Sgt. at Arms, Tail Gunner, and
Webmaster, a.k.a. Sgt. Tail-Master.
That is why he was a good choice to lead this chapter for 2005.

Hearing other people's concerns and counter opinions should not add
pressure to the position. Ignoring them will.
It should be taken as constructive, not negative.
It is not insubordinate to speak your mind in this country.
Getting this information should help you realize other's desires for
the chapter's direction. There are diplomatic ways to react, without
causing furhther disgreement.

That is why I have approached Pat.
I thought that I was offering him information he was not getting
elsewhere. And frankly, some that he seemed to be ignoring.
I assumed that our previous years of friendship, and respect for
each other, had created an atmosphere conducive to discussions of
these sensitive issues.
My judgement may have been off, slightly, but I hope you can all see
that my intention was to advance open communication throughout the
chapter (especially within the B.O.T., all 5 members).

As far as other members speaking to me about chapter issues goes;
most of that was in conversation with several members at once (some
of them chapter officers). Usually on rides or after meetings.

This was not "posted on the internet for the whole world to see", only
members of the STAR240 Yahoo group could have seen it.

Anthony, I have asked for feedback. Repeatedly. I have received very
little response from the chapter as a whole. The only time I hear from
most of them is through you. That is wrong. The 'chain of command'
*must* be followed, for the good of the chapter. You shouldn't be put on
the spot by the members, and you should also be adhering to the 'chain
of command' for ALL CHAPTER ISSUES.

I don't know what more I can say or do. I am being met with nothing but
resistance at every turn.

Doug,

I did a little research and here is some info to fill in the blanks...

The ride starts at Boston Harley-Davidson and ends at Pickering Wharf
in Salem.

Registration is 10 AM - 2 PM.

Ride departs at 2 PM.

There will be FREE refreshments in Salem.

I think that this might be fun. Salem around Halloween is a blast and
having a couple thousand bikers there will make it even more fun. If
the weather is good, I might do this. It would be fun to have a Star
240 contingent ride.

I went on this ride for the first time last year. Had a BLAST even
though it drizzled and rained the entire day (and I had no rain gear
at the time ;-(... There are a LOT of bikes that show up for this
thing unlike other "big" rides where they say "they'll be 1-3K bikes"
but, only 500 show up... not in this case ! Although last year's ride
was police escorted (I'm pretty sure same is true this year), it was
slightly disorganized but, wouldn't say it was unsafe. A lot of
guys/gals get dressed up as well - one guy has a bike completly
covered in buffalo skin complete with head and all ..pretty funny to
see that ride by ! You will not believe how many people set-up chairs
along the route and cheer you on as we ride by! Great time ... I plan
on doing it again this year - rain or shine. Thanks for the Parkway
Cycle party info Doug ..didn't know about that. Anyone else
interested ?

As far as other members speaking to me about chapter issues goes;
most of that was in conversation with several members at once (some
of them chapter officers). Usually on rides or after meetings.
The comments weren't always directly to me, and are not what I would

Yes, this is the H/D ride, but Parkway is hosting a pre ride "party."  Check with Billh@parkway.com for more details.  I have an awful time with Yahoo, so I try to avoid it.  If you can post this info there i'd appreciate it.
Thanks, look forward to seeing ya

Sorry did't mean to be flip.  My buddy at parkway ask me to ask for 240 support, and I ahd an awful time logging in.  I hope this isn't one of the negative things you were refering to.  I think you all do a great job running this chapter, i've been getting my new house ready to move into, and my old house ready to sell as well as working so my nerves are a littled frayed.
Hope to ride with ya soon

Doug,
It's something that I started, by sending Pat a message regarding some things that he should know. I guess I probably made more out of some small issues, than I should have.
Then Pat put it on line and I felt the need to explain myself further.
And there was some other stuff on the other forum, that was also part of this discussion.
I appologize to anyone who feels that I spoke out of turn.

Subject: [240] Re: Forum

As far as other members speaking to me about chapter issues goes;
most of that was in conversation with several members at once (some
of them chapter officers). Usually on rides or after meetings.
The comments weren't always directly to me, and are not what I would
call complaints. They are more like concern and/or differences of
opinion. Some members are closer friends and do call or email me,
with questions regarding the chapter. These are not secret
conversations.

As far as chain of command goes;
I am Past President, and was a member of the 2005 B.O.T., till
communications issues changed that. I think those members that
contct me feel I still have some knowledge of chapter protocal.
Most of what I have spoken or written to Pat, is known by other
officers. I only took it upon myself to communicate directly with
Pat, because of a feeling that no one else likes to. A feeling I get
because things seem to go on without remedy.

I care about this chapter, as an institution, because I put a lot of
effort into helping it grow and survive.
I do not ignore issues that could "turn off" members. They need to
be addressed.
There is not one member of this chapter, who we would like to see
leave. In fact, there are a few non active members who I woul dlike
to see more often.
We are a great group of people, and each deserve to always have a
place to ride, here in Star240.
Keeping the chapter up to that standard meens thinking of each
other, before thinking of ourselves.

I chose on a few occasions, in confidence, to try and present these
issues, to my friend Pat, as a matter of enlightenment and to
suggest he be more communicative, on a one on one basis, with
members. Pat, for the most part, has been receptive and respectfull
of these situations. My only regret is that our discusiions have
become "less than private", but... here we are, again.

I do not think it is an easy thing to lead a chapter that is always
growing and changing.
Pat, David, Louie, Gail, Scott, Pam, Roxanne, Doug, Kurt, etc. I
thank you all for what you are doing.

Please, do not get upset, by we members, who want to make our
opinions known. We are all individuals, and will never be in 100%
agreement with all your ideas and plans.
Take it all with a grain of salt. Consider the CHAPTER'S best
interests and make an informed, well thought out decision on chapter
matters. Use each other as resources. It is difficult, and unfair,
for one person to make all decisions, and take all the heat.

Now, tell me again what the October ride will be.
Who's leading it?
What time do we leave?
Where from?
Will there be any stops for group photos?

I LOVE doing this ride...did see 1 accident the year before
last...like any big ride, there are bozos riding poorly, the good
thing about it being a short ride is less chance to be hit by them!
they have good police control, there's no really fast riding since it
is mostly back roads, people love dressing up & the crowd response is
awesome...let's do it!!! :)

......I recognize a lot of new names I haven't seen before, and I want to say thanks for getting the website off the ground. To answer a few questions that have been asked, this is a free website for all the New England Chapters to use. All of the Chapter Presidents are being listed as moderators, and they should invite members of their chapters to join the site. A couple things I hope to accomplish are, a calendar with events going on all over New England at all different time s and places. And a place for Star Members to talk to each other, outside the realm of their own chapter. I believe in honest and open dialogue as a way to reach agreements and cooperation. This site may not be for everyone. Some chapters may not want to Have Fun, Ride a Lot, and enjoy other Star Members, that's OK. I can tell you from experience, our Chapter (291) is known for a good time. Isn't that why we joined?
......Please use this site in the best interest of your chapter. If you don't want guests at your monthly meeting, that's OK, if you don't want to attend other chapter party's, that's OK too. I want it all. I can't squeeze enough weekends in a year.....
....... About Star, we have several chapters in the area, including, New Haven, CT, Hartford, CT, Providence, RI, North Adams, MA, Westfield, MA, Worcester, MA, Framingham, MA, Plymouth, MA, Beverly, MA, Concord, NH, Laconia, NH, and Portland, ME. There are several more in the works at this time. Star is growing, and this area is loaded with riders looking for a Family type Association. We have all of the best riding within a couple hours.....
........The obituary was posted for Mike Mullins son, yesterday. It was sad news when I spoke to Mike on Saturday, and I'm sure he is thankful for all the well wishes.....
........There will be an open house membership drive at Chapter 196 in North Adams and I'm waiting to hear if he wants any support. If needed, we can get some riders up there to help out...........
.........Putting together some workshops for the winter, to be held at our warehouse in central Mass. Some already offered are Road Captain responsibilities, Tail Gunner Safety, Vets Benefits, First Aid & CPR certification. Also, a Powder Puff mechanics course, and our own, how to lift a bike.........
........Lets have some input on the site.
